World Clean Up Day: a strong commitment from our students to the environment
On the occasion of World Clean Up Day, a citizens’ movement born in Estonia, our students took part in a meaningful local action: cleaning up public spaces in Courbevoie.
On Friday, September 13, the kindergarten and primary pupils, along with the S3FR class, rolled up their sleeves to contribute to this ecological and civic initiative. Divided between Charras Park and the banks of the Seine, they collected nearly 88 kg of waste, including:
- 22.5 kg of recyclables;
- 9.2 kg of glass;
- 44.4 kg of household waste;
- 1.8 kg of cigarette butts.
A positive note: a reusable ecocup-type cup in perfect condition was brought back to school for a second life!
This day was also an opportunity to highlight the lasting impact of litter on the environment:
- A cigarette butt takes between 2 and 10 years to decompose, while polluting soil and water.
- A glass bottle can take several thousand years to disappear.
Beyond the figures, we warmly thank:
- the volunteer parents who came to support this initiative,
- all the teacher,
- Ludovic and César, ecological influencers, for their inspiring messages,
- and finally Tanguy Lahaye, national representative of World Clean Up Day, for his presence and valuable support.
We are very proud of our students for their involvement, energy, and enthusiasm. This action proves that with simple gestures, we can all contribute to a cleaner environment.
We encourage all families to extend this small gesture in their daily lives: pick up litter and throw it in a bin. These small actions, multiplied by thousands of people, make a real difference for our planet.
A big congratulation to everyone for the success of this first edition of Clean Up Day at the European School Paris La Défense! See you in 2026 to continue this great initiative.
