Secondary school projects

Sustainable development plays a central role in the projects carried out within the secondary school, through concrete, interdisciplinary actions embedded in students’ everyday learning.
From environmental awareness to civic engagement, many initiatives are led by teachers and integrated into the curriculum, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Students are encouraged to reflect on waste management, recycling and reuse of materials, the protection of ecosystems, climate-related challenges, and the preservation of natural resources. These topics are explored through active learning approaches, including artistic, scientific, sporting and cultural projects, fostering autonomy, cooperation and critical thinking.

This commitment is also reflected at school level through concrete actions such as eco-delegates, recycling initiatives, environmentally responsible facilities, awareness-raising events and partnerships with local associations.
By placing sustainable development at the heart of school life, the secondary school enables students to become informed and responsible citizens, capable of understanding contemporary challenges and engaging thoughtfully with the world around them.

EUROSPORT is an inter-European Schools sports competition that brings together up to 32 schools across a range of disciplines, in a spirit of fair play and cooperation.
This project, led within the school by a colleague and supervised by the teaching staff, enables committed students to represent their school at a large-scale European sporting event.

Participating students are selected through physical trials, which highlight not only their athletic abilities but also their motivation and team spirit. This selection process gives the project its full meaning, placing commitment and self-improvement at the heart of the experience.

Beyond the competition itself, EUROSPORT is a powerful educational experience. Students develop essential skills such as cooperation, respect for rules, autonomy and self-confidence, while meeting peers from other European Schools.

Rooted in the educational mission of the European School, EUROSPORT fully demonstrates the importance of sport as a vehicle for shared values, cohesion and personal development, and stands as a highlight of students’ school journey.

The Brussels Science Symposium is an European event that offers students the opportunity to engage actively in an open and collaborative scientific approach.
Through the participation of a team made up of teachers and students, our school takes part in a dynamic process of sharing, reflection and exchange around scientific projects developed by young people from across Europe.

The participating students represent their school by presenting their work, discussing ideas and interacting with other students, teachers and researchers. This experience highlights their curiosity, scientific rigour and communication skills, while fostering autonomy and critical thinking.

Rooted in the educational mission of the European School, the Science Symposium is a key milestone in students’ school journey. It promotes collaboration, intellectual openness and engagement with science, while bringing lasting benefits to the wider school community through shared experiences and learning.
